Maslow\nstumbled on one of the most elegant, simple and complete descriptions of God\u2019s\nplan for our lives. This seven-word statement tells us all we need to know of\nboth the uniqueness of our person and the uniqueness of our purpose. It simply\ntells us that we must be who God made us to be. As simple as that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Jeremiah 1:5<\/strong> God said \u201cBefore I formed you in the womb, I knew you, and before you were born, I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.\u201d Furthermore we learn from Psalms 139:15-16<\/strong> \u201cMy frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n I\nread the last part again \u201cthe days that were formed for me, when as yet there\nwas none of them\u201d So God knew my every step before I came into existence. But\nwhat about my free will to choose? If my every step in known why is finding my\npurpose so hard? I should just be able to get up in the morning and\nautomatically do what God had planned for me to do\u2026 makes sense right…. But\nmy experience tells me it ain\u2019t so. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The word\nI am looking for is \u201cantinomy\u201d. Definition: Greek antinom\u00eda a contradiction\nbetween laws. Both being simultaneously true. Somehow God has this plan laid\nout for me, but I still have to choose to take part in it. I have an image in\nmy head of how this might work. The problem with my image is that it is based\non my limited knowledge and therefore is inaccurate almost by definition. Great\nhelp huh\u2026. <\/p>\n\n\n\n We\ntake a Rabbit trail for a bit<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Boetheus had a view of how free will\/fore-ordination works such that since God is outside of time, he can look at all of history at once \u2014 and thus knows every decision beforehand. Kind of a chicken or egg sort of thing. The real answer is: I don\u2019t know how it works, but I know somehow it does. I know this from scripture and from my own experience. There are tons of references to God\u2019s plan for us, that\u2019s the biblical part. My experience is that that there is real evil in the world and that evil is from free will, not fore-ordination. God would not create us for evil, we have to choose it. From a Biblical sense I think of evil as the absence of doing good. Choosing not to choose is not a \u201cno decision\u201d, it is a decision to do nothing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In Isaiah\n45:7<\/strong> (KJV) it says “I form the light, and create darkness: I make\npeace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.” The word evil used\nhere is from the Hebrew word RAH which means affliction, trouble, calamity,\ngrievous, or misery. The bigger context of this verse is that it refers to\nnatural disasters (verses 5-7). A more accurate translation is \u201cThe One forming\nlight and creating darkness, causing well-being and creating calamity; I am the\nLord who does all these,”<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sorry\nI wanted to make sure we didn\u2019t confuse this discussion with a discussion of\nfree will and evil. That is a different subject for another time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Back\nto the Main trail<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n So,\nif you look at verses like Jeremiah and Psalms and think you can just sit back and\nit will all work out, I don\u2019t think you will like the outcome. Max Lucado in \u201cTen Men of the Bible\u201d said \u201cBehind\nevery avalanche is a snowflake, behind every rock slide is a pebble\u201d. God\u2019s\nplan is the avalanche and the rock slide. Our decisions are the snowflakes and\nthe pebbles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Finding the purpose that God created us for is more than a good idea. It is the essence of why we are here. Finding it and living in it, completes us.
