That was his day job; it sustained his ministry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/tomme-stevenson.com\/website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Tentmaker.png?resize=400%2C267&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-473\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/tomme-stevenson.com\/website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Tentmaker.png?w=400&amp;ssl=1 400w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/tomme-stevenson.com\/website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Tentmaker.png?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-normal-font-size\"> <strong>Acts 18:3,\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cand because he was of the same trade, he stayed with them and they were working, for by trade, they were tent-makers . \u201c <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\"> Paul continued to pursue his vocation as a tent-maker throughout his life. Including the time Paul was an enforcer for the Sanhedrin, and after his conversion. We can assume he was reasonably good at it. But being good at something and having a passion for something are two different issues completely. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">We mistake being good at something for being passionate about that same thing. After all to be good at something you need to practice it, you need to study it, you need to stay at it for a while. Why would someone put that much effort into a dispassionate endeavor? There are a lot of reasons. You could deem that your material life would be better off if you had this particular vocation. You might feel more accepted in your social circle if you had a specific skill. For some children, their parents ingrain in them the idea that they should have a particular profession or vocation when they grow up, so they chase it to make our parents happy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">In America, what I see more\noften than not, is that we come out of school and need to earn a living. We\ndon\u2019t know what is out there, so we take the available job. We might do some\nhigh-level filtering like; I like talking to people, or I don\u2019t like working\nwith numbers. But for the most part, we need to pay the rent. That starts a\nvicious cycle of more bills, more money, more obligations, more money. We\nbecome good at something because it meets this basic need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the vocation that Paul was good at was not his passion. When asked who he was, he would not have answered &#8220;tent maker&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\"><strong>1 Corinthians 16-17<\/strong>, \u201cFor when I preach the\nGospel, I cannot boast, since I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not\npreach the Gospel! If I preach voluntarily, I have a reward; if not\nvoluntarily, I am simply discharging the trust committed to me.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Paul lays out his passion for preaching the word. He was compelled to preach. Paul had a firm grasp on his calling and love, and it wasn\u2019t tent-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">As we look toward the future to\ntry to understand God\u2019s plan for our life, we need to take a lesson from Paul.\nOur vocation might be an essential element in God\u2019s plan for us, as it provides\nsustainability in our ministry. We might not need or want to walk away from our\n\u201cday job\u201d when we transition closer to God\u2019s plan. It may not be our passion,\nbut it may be part of the program. It is a skill and a resource God gave to us\nto use for His purpose.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Colossians 3:23<\/strong>&nbsp;says, \u201cWhatever\nyou do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the LORD, not for human\nmasters.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">I need to make a point here;\nPaul did believe that those who share the Gospel could receive compensation. If\nfull-time ministry is your calling, then God will find a way for you to\nmonetize (earn a living from) it. Here is what Paul says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1 Corinthians 9:11<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cIf we have sown\nspiritual things among you, is it too much if we reap material things from\nyou?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1\nCorinthians 9:14<\/strong>, \u201cthe Lord commanded that those who proclaim the\ngospel should get their living by the Gospel.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\"><strong>Galatians\n6:6<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cOne who is taught the word must share all good things\nwith the one who teaches.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Sustainability\nis important. If what you are chasing is truly God\u2019s plan for you, He will\nprovide the resources. From experience, I should remind you, the present using\nthe past to create the future, remember that? The season of your life might\nchange. Don\u2019t view that as a lack of sustainability. Look at it as the cost of\ntuition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Is your day job the primary predictor of your impact?
