\"Work\u201cWe are overworked and underpaid.\u201d Every generation says it. My grandfather said it, my father said it, I\u2019ve said it, and now my daughter says it too.<\/p>\n

The language changes, the economy shifts, and jobs look different\u2014but the feeling remains the same. Life often feels like a constant effort just to keep up. There is always more to do, more expected, and rarely enough reward to match the effort.<\/p>\n

So, what do we do with that feeling?<\/p>\n

You Are Exactly Where God Wants You<\/h2>\n

This is the part most people resist. If we truly believe in God\u2019s sovereignty, we must also believe this: You are where God wants you and when God wants you there.<\/p>\n

God does not waste time, nor does He waste effort, and He certainly does not misplace people.<\/p>\n

That means even in seasons when you feel overlooked, underpaid, or taken advantage of\u2014God is not absent. He is intentional.<\/p>\n

That doesn\u2019t mean every employer is fair. Scripture doesn\u2019t pretend they are. In fact, Jesus directly addresses this tension in the Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard (Matthew 20:1\u201316<\/a>), where workers receive what appears to be unequal pay. The lesson isn\u2019t about fairness\u2014it\u2019s about trust in the Master. Each worker agreed to the compensation when the job was offered. It seemed fair then and met a need. But when compared with others, it later seemed unfair. The lesson is to accept your decisions and not complain when others make a better one.<\/p>\n

To complain about being in the middle of God\u2019s plan is, at its core, to question the plan itself.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s a hard truth\u2014but it\u2019s also a freeing one.<\/p>\n

Work Is Worship<\/h2>\n

We often think of worship as something we do in a church setting. But Scripture paints a much broader picture. Work is worship.<\/p>\n

Colossians 3:23<\/strong>, \u201cWhatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.\u201d<\/p>\n

If that is true, then your job is no longer just a job. Your boss is no longer your ultimate authority, and effort is no longer tied to your paycheck.<\/p>\n

You are working for God. That changes everything.<\/p>\n

1 Corinthians 10:31<\/strong>, \u201cSo whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.\u201d<\/p>\n

And Proverbs reinforces it:<\/p>\n

Proverbs 14:23<\/strong>, \u201cAll hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.\u201d<\/p>\n

The opportunity to work\u2014to build, to contribute, to grow\u2014is not a burden. It is a gift. The question is not whether the work is fair. It is whether you are faithful in it.<\/p>\n

Do the Work Without Complaining<\/h2>\n

This is where it becomes difficult.<\/p>\n

Philippians 2:14\u201315<\/strong>, \u201cDo everything without grumbling or arguing\u2026 so that you may become blameless and pure.\u201d<\/p>\n

Why?<\/p>\n

How you work is a testimony. Anyone can work hard when they feel valued. Few people can work faithfully when they feel overlooked. That difference is what sets you apart\u2014not just professionally, but spiritually.<\/p>\n

You are not just an employee; you are an ambassador.<\/p>\n

The Question Is Not \u201cWhy?\u201d but \u201cWhat?\u201d<\/h2>\n

When life feels unfair, our instinct is to ask: \u201cWhy is this happening to me?\u201d But Scripture quietly redirects that question. A better question is: \u201cWhat am I meant to learn here?\u201d<\/p>\n

If God has placed you in this moment, then there is something in it for you\u2014something to refine you, strengthen you, or prepare you.<\/p>\n

Colossians 4:5<\/strong>, \u201cBe wise in the way you act\u2026 make the most of every opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

And in the Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14\u201330<\/a><\/strong>), the servants are not judged by what they were given\u2014but by what they did with it. Your current situation may not be ideal. But it is still an opportunity.<\/p>\n

A Hard but Necessary Question<\/h2>\n

There is also a moment for honest reflection. How did you get here? Did you follow God\u2019s direction\u2014or your own desire? Or did you step into this role out of calling\u2014or convenience?<\/p>\n

If the situation is the result of your own choices, then the response is not frustration\u2014it is correction.<\/p>\n

Proverbs 12:11<\/strong>, \u201cThose who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies have no sense.\u201d<\/p>\n

God does not waste time\u2014but we sometimes do. The good news is this: even when we make missteps, God can still use the situation to shape us.<\/p>\n

The Perspective That Changes Everything<\/h2>\n

Being overworked and underpaid may not be a punishment. It may be preparation. Preparation for discipline, responsibility, and something greater that requires more than you currently have.<\/p>\n

If you cannot be faithful in a difficult season, you will not be ready for a better one. So instead of asking: \u201cWhy is this happening to me?\u201d<\/p>\n

Ask: \u201cGod, what are You teaching me here\u2014and how do I use it?\u201d<\/p>\n
